Logan's Updates

01/28/2010: Logan has just come home from today’s Chemo and thankfully he feels much better than he has so far this week. Yesterday he got home and slept the entire evening and night, literally catching about seven extra hours of sleep. That sleep translated into great blood counts today, for the first time in several months he will be taking an entire Chemo week without needing transfused. Yeah Logan!

And the Red Cross Coordinator forwarded this great note:
“We ended up signing in 38 donors, and of those, we saw 33. There were 7 deferrals, resulting in 26 units!!! So exciting! ….one of the blood technicians remarked how wonderful the donors were, very patient and kind.
Please pass this information on to let Logan know that he really made a difference!”

This picture was taken at the blood drive, this Mrs. Donna and Mr. Robert, Logan’s Cub Scout Leaders.

01/26/2010: Today was Logan’s blood drive, and it was wonderfully successful. Thank you so much to our friends that came out to donate! Logan tried to make it in to say hello but just wasn’t feeling up to it. He is having a rough Chemo week. This picture is of two of our dear friends donating for Logan. Our neighbor Chuck was the first in line today and Charlie, with the beard, drove down from Richmond to give the gift of life. Thank you all so very much, from Logan and all of the kids that depend on donated blood to keep going.

01/20/2010: After several days of many ups and downs, Logan went in for a ‘double-double’ transfusion yesterday and now he feels like a new man. ;) It’s hard to put into words the difference it makes for the cancer kids to be able to go in and get transfused when their little bodies just can’t keep up and make what they need any longer. So, we were honored when Logan’s school asked us to be a part of their upcoming Red Cross Blood drive. Last week I posted an incorrect date for the drive, sorry about that! I am now posting the flyer that the Red Cross is distributing; it has all of the info. Logan will be in Chemo that week but is excited and hopeful that he can go to the drive after Chemo and pass out cookies and oven mitts. We would love to see you there.

01/17/2010: Aaron had a gracious offer to take Logan along on a flight with an overnight to Florida. They left yesterday and had a great time at the hotel pool, they just returned home tired and happy. This is a picture of them in the Florida sun, enjoying a moment in the heated pool. What a great way to spend a Saturday in January.

01/13/2010: Logan has had a good day today. He started on shaky footing but pulled out ¾ of a day of school and has felt good since. Monday he jumped out of bed and went to school for a full day, ‘bus to bus!’ as he likes to call it. He was very impressed with himself but he was exhausted and wasn’t able to recover for school yesterday. He got up pale, tired and weak so we had a visit from the home nurse, she checked him out and declared him okay (blood counts were within range) but said he should rest and recuperate then try school today. When it was time to go this morning he negotiated an extra hour of sleep, his dad and I are borderline pushovers at this point, then popped out of bed ready to go when his hour had passed. We are at a point in his treatment plan where we should expect low energy and the doctors have said we should follow his leads. He is still too much of a wild man to stay home and ‘rest’ unless it is necessary. He still has a great attitude. He’s very excited this week because his school is having a Red Cross Blood Drive in his honor next Tuesday and he is feeling like a celebrity. He will be in Chemo next week but is planning to stop at school afterward and pass out cookies and water if he is up to it. ;)
I am posting a picture from Christmas, this is Logan and Jeremiah. They are best buds, he is Logan and Emily’s honorary big brother. They know that they can count on him to spoil them every chance he gets.

01/07/2010: Logan turned things around yesterday and is feeling much better. He managed to eat a little bit during Chemo-clinic yesterday and having something in his stomach seemed to give him the boost he needed. He had an okay day and a very good evening. He was up and around and even managed to attend a dinosaur show with his scout troop, we are delighted with the progress and wanted to thank you all for the extra prayers and well wishes this week. This picture was taken in the WV snow last week.

01/05/2010: This is Chemo week and Logan is really feeling it, so there are no happy pictures to be taken tonight. He is brave but feeling tired so he picked this picture of Santa visiting with him and Amanda just before Christmas, he thought it would bring some cheer to Chemo-week for his friends. He is a very sweet little man.
